Counterparts of PILLER blowers for the Clean Air project
Objective
Delivery of a centrifugal blower with a rotation speed of up to 3000 rpm for moving purified metallurgical dry gas with an SO2 content of up to 13.3% and an H2SO4 mist of up to 20 mg/Nm³.
Solution
Equipment from KMZ's own line of sulfur gas blowers was selected to ensure the blower's maximum rating (volumetric output of 270 000 m³/h and pressure boosting of 45 kPa). Validating aerodynamic tests were performed at our laboratory, which resulted in identification of the largest axial-radial configuration in terms of schedule-size.
In order to meet the requirements on resistance to corrosive media, it was decided to have the impeller made from Super Duplex steel and the flow path to be made from stainless steel.
The development of the blower’s design took into account the best practices of the world's leading manufacturers of compressor equipment and the experience of operating similar equipment at other sulfuric acid facilities. Based on the results of R&D, advanced solutions that are unique for the Russian Federation were introduced into the design. At the same time, a 90% rate of use of Russian materials and components in the equipment was achieved.
Result
The equipment was successfully put into operation. A few months after the launch of the sulfur recovery system, the customer had difficulties with adjusting the production process, which resulted in not being able to operate the equipment in modes defined in the technical assignment.
Our engineers took an active part in setting up the blowers for operation under new conditions: they adjusted the operating and maintenance modes, made design changes, and trained the customer's personnel.
As a result, there was an improvement in equipment’s reliability under the new conditions.
